This short course takes place between January and April 2024. It is free for members of the North Kensington community. Read on for more information.
Every year, The Bartlett School of Planning, UCL, organises a short course on participatory
planning titled 'Civic Design'.
Each year, our students work in collaboration with a community group in London. This year, the course will focus on the Trellick and Cheltenham Estate.
It is intended as a follow up of the research project - 'Develop Trellick?' - that the Trellick Tower Residents’ Association is doing with UCL and the Museum of London, exploring community priorities for improving the neighbourhood. You can read more about the 'Develop Trellick?' project here

We invite communities from the local area to take the course for free, so they can gain skills to participate in the decisions made about the future of their neighbourhood.

The course equips participants with methods and tools to run participatory planning and
co-design processes, enable civic engagement, and involve communities in decision-making.
While there are some planners and architects taking the course, the course is also for community
members that want to learn about how to actively participate in improving their neighbourhood.
We offer a number of free bursaries for community members.
If you are interested, please email pablo.sendra@ucl.ac.uk for instructions for free registration.

How much involvement does it require? When is it taking place?
As a community member taking the course, you can get involved as much as you want/can.
You can take the whole course or just participate in a number of sessions.
The course has two parts:
• Part 1: 11 January – 21 March 2024. 10 weeks of online lectures, which you can watch on
your own time and then attend an online live discussion: Thursdays 6pm – 7pm.

• Part 2: Face-to-face intensive workshop with communities: 24-27 April 2024 (24–26 April from
9am to 6pm, with lunch break; 27 April from 9am to 1pm). Located both in North Kensington and
at the UCL Urban Room in Stratford.
